The man, Ighoyota was born August 8, 1952 into the Amori family of Mosogar, Ethiope West LGA of Delta. The mother is a native of Idjerhe Kingdom, also in Ethiope West LGA. The young Ighoyota had his education at Evbonogbor Primary School, Mosogar (1958-63); Ziks Academy Grammar School, Sapele (1967-71); University of Benin; BSc, Geology (1974-79); and University of Ibadan; M.Sc, Geophysics (1980-81). After his M.Sc programme, he worked briefly at Paulosa Nigeria Ltd (1983-86) before establishing his own outfit: Amodril Nigeria Ltd. in 1986.
Chief Amori’s entry into mainstream politics in Nigeria began in 1987 when he contested and won election as a Councillor and was later appointed as a supervisory Councillor for Education in Ethiope Local Government Area in the then Bendel State from 1987-1989. Prior to this, he was elected as the Secretary General of the University of Benin Students Union Government (SUG) and Assistant Secretary, National Union of Nigeria Students (1976-1977).
Chief Amori has also served as Secretary, National Republican Convention (NRC), Ethiope Local Government Area (1990-1992); State Secretary, Grassroots Democratic Movement (1996-1998), State Publicity Secretary, Peoples’ Democratic Party (1998-1999), Commissioner for Education (1999-2003), among others. In these positions, he has been able to contribute immensely to both human capital and societal developments.
As commissioner for education, he contributed significantly towards the upliftment of the educational sector in Delta State. He embarked on massive infrastructural development; renovation and fencing of Primary Schools in the state; mass recruitment of Secondary Schools teaching staff; establishment of model schools across the state; provision of computers in secondary schools; massive infrastructural development across all public schools and in the Delta State University, Abraka permanent site and the campuses at Asaba and Oleh; establishment of French Language Centre, Asaba; procurement and supply of books and teaching aids and science laboratory equipment to various schools; provision of scholarship for learning oversea; payment of bursaries to Delta State students; establishment of three polytechnics and one college of physical education, etc.
Amori accomplished a lot during his seven-month tenure as the senator for Delta Central in 2015. Among his accomplishments are being the first to sponsor a bill to establish the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), which was read for the first time in the Senate on September 30, 2015, and empowering more than 500 constituents through recommendation letters to various institutions both in Delta State and all over the Federation for job placement internship and school admission.
Chief Sen Amori is a bridge builder that deserves the support of all sons and daughters of Urhobo. He is currently the Patron of the Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society; a National Patron of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club; National Chairman, Urhobo Political Forum (UPF); National Chairman, Delta Central 2023 (DC-23), PDP National Organizing Secretary Dec. 2021-till date and Delta Central Senatorial Candidate of PDP for the 2023 Election.
Aside from his political contributions to the lively and peaceful coexistence of all Nigerians,High Chief Sen. Ighoyota Amori is a philanthropist ,a friendly leader and indeed a man of the people, accessible to all groups no matter the tribe, tongue and political persuasion.
Finally, Chief Ighoyota Amori being a pan Urhobo man,who believe strongly in the unity and development of his people ,Chief Sen Ighoyota Amori JP holds the following traditional titles and honours;
- Okobaro of Mosogar Kingdom
- Orhovweguigwe of Ughelli Kingdom
- Ataneru of Abraka Kingdom
- Otedje of Agbara-Warri Kingdom
- Adjerese of Okpe Kingdom.
He also served as “Otota” (traditional prime minister of Mosogar Kingdom from 2006 when the kingdom was created till on Saturday 24th September,2022 (16years)
