Recently, I was on a trip returning from Asaba through the Jesse route when I had breakdown at Okueka Road. It was an issue with my tyre such that I had to hire a bike man to take me into Sapele to buy another tyre since mine was punctured and the spare tyre discovered to be bad also. In the process, the bike rider started complaining about bumps on the roads and was praying fervently for Chief Amori to win the election for Ethiope-West to have good roads. Pretending like I didn’t know what Chief Amori was contesting for, I asked the young man if the man he mentioned his name was contesting for Governorship of the state, he said no, but that he is going to be Senator in matter of weeks, because according to him, once he has secured the ticket of PDP, winning the General election wouldn’t be too much of trouble. And that once he is sworn in, the people of Urhobo will continue to benefit his goodwill without wasting time. I tasked the young man to discussions when I told him that Senators does not have powers to award road construction contracts, so that he cannot expect much from the man. In his response, the young man said, “Oga, if you know Chief Amori you will not debate this with me because the man is a very fast politician who understands what his people need, and he will go for the best”. At a point, though I was happy at the comments he passed on Senator Amori, I went mute because since he was riding, I don’t want him to make mistakes since I was riding with him.
Finally, when we got back to Jesse where I had left my car, I asked for his name and where he come from, he said his name is Okiemute from Ajavwini-Jesse, but that he lives in Amukpe, but he works within Jesse villages to make an end meet. Asking further, I inquired to know if he has PVC to vote, he put hands in his pocket to bring out a slip of his registration and that he went to register because of Chief Amori and that he got good number of his friends and relatives registered because of Chief Amori.
From the way this young man spoke, I picked facts from the realities of life that whatever one is doing, there are people watching from behind, good or bad. To the young man, he has never met Chief Amori one-on-one in his life, but he kept wishing he would meet him some day to pray for him if that was the know additional contributions he could put into the Senatorial race for Chief Amori.
The question I will ask therefore is that, if such a young man who have not directly benefitted from Chief Sen Amori could stand up to know the values of this man(Sen Amori), what am I waiting for to deeply identify with him? No, I cannot sit by the sides to watch the unfolding political developments without my inputs, but falling in line to be deeply involved until he is inaugurated into the 10th Assembly as Senator Representing Delta Central. In the same vain, I will call on all and sundry that are still watching from behind to join forces with The Senatorial Train of Chief Senator Ighoyota Amori, until he is inaugurated into the Senate to give quality representation. It translate to mean meaningful development, as I am sure such efforts can never be considered wasted. Antecedents have shown that Chief Senator Amori has never been a political bench warmer all through his life, having demonstrated it when he was Commissiooner for Education and Commissioner for Water Resources during the Chief James Ibori led administration.
That Chief Amori did not contest for Senate throughout the 8 years of Chief Ibori’s government goes to confirm that he is not a greedy man. He would have gotten to the Senate without spending a dime. I once asked him why he was not interested in running then, he told me, “Duncan, it will be too selfish for me to abandon my appointment and pursue Senatorial ambition when there are others that are also capable to fit in appropriately. His assistance to late Senator Fred Brume to win his Senatorial election then was a reference point recently when the consultation train visited the Udu Leaders. The roles Sen Amori played for Senator Adegor Eferakeya to become Senator cannot also be overemphasised.
However, I want to believe that his time has come and that time is 2023 where we expect that every muscle flexing within must be relaxed for the process to be seamless. To collapse all such structures set up with attempts to challenge him will not be seen as signs of weakness, but it demonstrates love and respect which shall strengthen the bond that held us together as a people. That to me is respect and the outcome shall be so rewarding, because from the way I know Chief Amori, he is capable of turning the table around to favour all stakeholders in this project.
I also use the opportunity to call on delegates to do justice to this project with a view to deliver Chief Senator Ighoyota Amori on May 14th, 2022. May the Lord bless you all as you do that, Amen.
