His Royal Majesty Ovie Richard Layeguen ogbon(JP)phD,RC,OON,Ogoni-Oghoro1,Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom was born early in 1917,to the Ogbon family of Olomu Kingdom,one of the Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state,Nigeria.He survived the great influenza of 1918 which destroyed many young lives in Urhobo land and around the world. Growing up as a young brilliant energetic son of the land,he builts his career in teaching,serving as headmaster of schools and as an inspector of schools.
As part of his pioneer achievements,he served as a servant and leader throughout his youth,championed community development and empowerment programme through the establishment of Okurame Farmer’s Multi-purpose co-operative society in 1978 and founded patriotic Movement (O.P.M) in the 1950s,which later became “Olomu Kugbere Union and Olomu Union between 1970 and 1980s.
Due to his uncommon patriotism, unparalleled humanity and Sterling leadership qualities which is epitome worthy of traits,he became the “Ohworode” of Olomu,taken over from his predecessor,the Great Ovedje,son of Osadjere of Ovwor in 1988 till date.
As a custodian of culture and tradition,the Ohworode has played a significant roles in the promotion of harmony among the Olomu Kingdom,the Urhobo nation, Deltans and Nigeria in general.Also,being the chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers,His Majesty has contributed immensely to the social- cultural cooperation,communal living and peaceful co-existence among the Urhobo and other ethnic groups in our dear state of Delta.
Finally,I called on the world power to recognized our prestigious Royal father,as the oldest monach in the world,having being the oldest among queen Elizabeth of England born 21 April 1926,King Abdul Halim, supreme head of state of Malaysia and sultan of Kedah born 28 November 1927,King Bhumibol Adulyady of Thialand born 5 December 1927,Emir Sabah Al-Almad of Kuwait born 16 June 1929 and Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang state, Malaysia born 24 October 1930.
