Governance entails all of the various process of governing, whether undertaken by the government of a state, by a market, or by a network, over a social system (family, tribe, formal or informal organization, a territory or across territories) and whether through the laws, norms, power or language of an organized society. It relates to “the processes of interaction and decision-making among the actors involved in a collective problem that lead to the creation, reinforcement, or reproduction of social norms and institutions”.
The quality of governance in any country, is a product of the composition of her leadership, which goes in a long way in ascertaining the quality of services enjoy by the citizens.
In Nigeria, governance has never been fair to the majority of the citizens, including children who are meant to be a tool for transition from generation to generation.
Leadership failure is a major factor of bad governance in Nigeria, which is evidence in poor educational policy and programmes, poor management of public funds, inadequate infrastructures and lack of basic amenities for the enjoyment of the citizenry.
Nigeria being one of the country with over 200 million population, accounted for over 46% of children between age 15-0 with over 7million babies born annually. The continuous growth in population of children in the country, have to be match with good governance in order to secure the future of every Nigerian child, whether born in the city, town or villages.Governance must develop programme and policy that will take care of all the physiological, emotional and social needs of the child.
Finally, with this year theme for the celebration of 2021 Children’s Day”Investing in our future means investing in our children”,governance across all level, should invest in our children,so as to guarantee a better future.Every Nigerian Child must be taken out of the street, parents must jettison the idea of using their children to make money, while they are meant to be in school.
Happy Children’s Day To All Nigerian Children.
